Projects
Spaceport America Cup
We will be competing at the highest level of rocketry in June.
The objective : successfully fly and recover a rocket with your own propulsion system to 30,000 feet. An 8.8 lb payload must also be integrated and kept intact upon recovery
Headstrong
Led by Constantine Childs, we launched a rocket that went 46,100 feet and 1227.63 miles per hour!
The objective : Engineer a high altitude rocket that could withstand intense aerodynamic pressure and heating similar to what the Spaceport America Cup rocket will experience.
2 Stage Subscale
This two-stage rocket is a 1/3 scale prototype of our space shot rocket to test stage separation and upper stage ignition methods. In addition, the test flight provided valuable qualitative feedback of the second stage's dynamic stability. The second stage reached an altitude of 7560 ft and a maximum speed of 370 mph. Half of the rocket is constructed from 3D printed carbon fiber (PETG), with the other half being fiberglass.
Certifications
Under Tripoli Rocketry Association rules, the “Level 3” is the highest level of high-power certification that can be granted to a rocketeer. 83% of our team is L3 certified
